Andrea Ortiz' decisive win at The Battle Of Tampa Bay showed that fighting spirit combined with the discipline of hard training and desire breeds champions!

A two thousand plus crowd witnessed the world class Battle Of Tampa Bay Kickboxing championships unfold at the Joe DiMaggio Complex in Clearwater Florida. This televised event showed Crystal River's own Andrea Ortiz facing the hometown favorite, hard hitting fighter Melissa Trinidad for the Battle Of Tampa Bay title.

Ortiz, who is only 17 years of age, fought her way to the title by way of Technical Knock Out, one minute and 43 seconds into the 3rd round. Trinidad was not able to continue when the referee gave her a second eight count for receiving a flurry of seven unanswered punches by Ortiz. Another eight count had already been received by the tough Trinidad in the second round when a hard punch from Ortiz dropped her to the canvas.

To prepare for this fight, Ortiz underwent extensive training in Muay Thai Kickboxing by the champions and instructors at the professional fighters' gym USA Muay Thai Kickboxing, located in Crystal River.

"I trained hard for 8 weeks straight and was ready for her" said Ortiz. Her fight preparation, conducted by head instructor and pro-fighter Stefan Butin Bik, consisted out of heavy physical conditioning, a rigorous diet, and the devastating superior Muay Thai Kickboxing techniques also used in Ultimate Fighting Championships and K-1 events.

"Andrea has all the attributes to become a champion; she has proved that in all her fights. She is still a minor, taking on and beating adult women. She will only grow stronger the more she matures", said Butin Bik.

Ortiz' next fight is scheduled for  July 24th, at the Shin Do Kumite in Tampa where she will be facing K-1 super fight champion Melanie Kohler.
